Background of the Study
Religious beliefs significantly shape the mindset and behavior of individuals, influencing economic activities such as entrepreneurship. In Awka North Local Government Area, Anambra State, religious doctrines and values often inform business practices, decision-making processes, and risk management strategies among entrepreneurs (Nwankwo, 2023). The intertwining of faith and business has led to the development of unique entrepreneurial models where ethical considerations and community support play critical roles. These religious values foster a culture of trust, resilience, and social responsibility, which are essential for sustainable business growth (Okoro, 2024). However, the impact of religious beliefs on entrepreneurship also raises questions about market competitiveness and innovation. While some argue that a strong ethical foundation enhances business credibility, others caution that excessive reliance on religious principles may impede aggressive market strategies (Chukwu, 2025). This study intends to explore the nuanced relationship between religious beliefs and entrepreneurial activities, investigating how faith-based values influence business operations, investment decisions, and community engagement. The findings will contribute to a deeper understanding of the role of spirituality in shaping economic behavior in a culturally rich environment.
Statement of the Problem
Entrepreneurs in Awka North face the dual challenge of balancing religious convictions with the demands of a competitive business environment. The influence of religious beliefs on entrepreneurial decision-making can both foster ethical business practices and, at times, restrict innovative approaches necessary for market survival. This study seeks to address the ambiguity surrounding the role of religious beliefs in entrepreneurship by examining their impact on business performance and market competitiveness. It aims to identify barriers and opportunities presented by the interplay of faith and commerce (Nwankwo, 2023; Okoro, 2024).
